Navarrem Shelties & Samoyed was established in 1999, in Dublin, Ireland. My first show dog and my first Champion was Argi, a Samoyed - Ch Celticbreeze Snow Dancer of Navarrem. - Without any doubts, Argi was the reason why I show and breed dogs. I could have not started this adventure without him. He was a magnificent specimen of the breed and a natural born show man. From Argi I learnt a lot, not only from my success but also from my mistakes.
Completed hooked in the dogs show, it was time to choose a Kennel name. I wanted for my prefix something it could reflect who I am, my origin. For this reason, I decided to choose Navarrem, a combination of the name of the region I was born in the Basque Country – Navarra- and the two first letters of my first name – Emilio - .
When Argi was 6 months, my first sheltie bitch joined me almost by accident. She was Foster’s Delight of Navarrem – Cloe- . She was not show quality due to very heave ears but she had many many qualities; a flow less walk, an incredible personality and a show character that she passed to her descendent. My love and heart, she passed away in 2008 due to cancer. Her ashes with me forever. Always missed and loved.
Cloe was mainly Lythwood lines and definitely Cloe started it all opening for me a door to discover the Lyhtwood Lines and Dogs, without any doubts my biggest influence and the type of Sheltie I aim to own and breed. Derek and Phyllis Rigby from Lythwood Shelties have supported me during the years allowing me to have my beautiful boys- Bobby- GB Ch Lythwood Spin Doctor of Navarrem and – Kay- GB Ch Lythwood Terriwood Stormy Nite of Navarrem and recently my beautiful girl- Leia- Lythwood Trixie of Navarrem. I could never thanks Derek and Phyllis enough for sharing these beautiful dogs with me.
Cloe was mated in 2003 to Ch & GB Ch Brylin Pickpocket and CC Crufts winner. A single pup was the result of my first litter- Tara-.
Tara- Ch Navarrem Summer Nights (AN Ch 04)- Top Sheltie Puppy 2004 and Top Sheltie 2004 in Ireland, Top Sheltie Bitch 2006- A Best in Show, Best Puppy in Show winner, multiple BOB and Group winner . Like his mother, a perfect movement and outstanding show character.
In 2005, Tara was mated to my own dog GB Ch Lythwood Spin Doctor. Ben; Multi Ch Navarrem The Conqueror was born in this litter. Ben was Top Sheltie Puppy 2005 and the winner of multiple Green Starts, BOB and Group placements as puppy.
I couldn’t be prouder of him. Personality wise, he remins me at Cloe so much. Solid, never afraid, loves showing. -Top Winning Irish Sheltie-. He is the only Irish Sheltie to achieve such international achievement. Ben is also the only Irish Sheltie to achieve the FCI Int Ch Title in 3 Countries and is the winner of numerous CACIB in Europe. He is also a fantastic Stud Dog having produced top winning shelties in Russia and the WORLD WINNER 2013
In 2006, GB Ch Lythwood Terriwood Stormy Nite of Navarrem joined my kennel. A beautiful dog and a fabulous Stud Dog! Ben and Kay won many Green Starts and BOB during 2006 & 2007.
During 1999-2007, I have the opportunity to own and breed beautiful shelties, brining new lines to Ireland. Unfortunately, due to unplanned life circumstances, at the end of 2007, I was forced to close my kennel during 2008 to end 2010. I was heartbroken. After considering few offers from different breeders across Europe, the boys travel to Elena Kulikova – Valerina Ross Shelties. A hard decision at the time but proved to be the correct one. Bobby, Kay and Ben have influenced the sheltie breeding in Russia considerably. Bringing the well know Lyhtwood Lines to Russia and making an a positive impact in the breed.
Tara joined Lavika Shelties in the UK with Lana.
In 2010, I was in the position to start all over again with Patrick - co-owner & co-breeder of Navarrem Shelties-. As a pair, we contacted Elena and asked her to buy Ben back from her. In 2011, Ben – Multi Ch Navarrem The Conqueror- return to Ireland. Thank you Elena so much for looking after our boy. Ben immediately hit the show ring wining BOB in his first show in Ireland. Ben achieved in 2011 his Irish Title and 2 CACIB becoming an FCI Int Champion. He is a multiple BOB and Reserve Best Dog, Group placements.
Almost by accident, in February 2011, -Tino- Irish Legend of Navarrem- joined our home. We went to see a bitch near London which I thought it was not for me. Few days before that, I saw an ad in All4sheltiesuk of a young puppy ( 11 Weeks) that I thought it looked very promising but he was in Scotland. Patrick convince me to travel by car from London to Edinburgh to see the puppy. I needed a bitch and definitely I was not planning in getting another male. – Will have a look- we said-!!. When I arrived to Stephen’s house I was disappointed for the failure of the trip to London. I immediately forgot everything when I saw Tino running in the living room. After 60 seconds I knew I will be buying him. Tino has became the most successful sheltie I have ever had. He is a Best Puppy in Show All Breed Ch show winner, puppy group winner and unbeaten in all his classes as puppy and junior dog in 2011 in Ireland. He is qualified for Crufts 2012. Best of Breed at 9 months under Linda Millman, Secretary of the Shetland Shepdog Canadian Association. Multiple reserve Best Dog. We are looking forward 2012.
At that time, we were still looking for a nice brood bitch. In March 2011, Leia came to live with us. Once again, Derek and Phyllis Rigby from Lythwood Shelties allowed me to have this very beautifully bred girl to start off again. Leia – Lythwood Trixie of Navarrem combines the lines of very well known and establish UK Sheltie Kennels; Lythwood and Rannerdale. She was sired by Gb Ch Rannerdale Bugsy Malone , Dam: Lythwood Scarllet Ribbon, mother of excellent quality shelties like GB Ch Lythwood Sharp Shooter, Gb Ch Lythwood Sacha, GB Ch Lythwood Slipper Orchid and many others.
We would like to thank everybody who supported us during these years. At the good and the hard times! To Derek and Phyllis Rigby for sharing their beautiful dogs with me. To Elena Kulikova for sending Ben back to me to be able to continue with my Navarrem lines, now breeding our 4th generation. To Lana and Natalia for making possible Ben returns to Ireland. To my friends Sean Carroll for his support in the hard times. To Stephen Proctor for giving me the opportunity to own such a beautiful dog that Tino is. And to all of those who help and advise me about Shelties and dog showing during these years. Looking forward to the new challenges and hopefully our new generations of Navarrem shelties.
